I would like to share my recent experience on Saturday Jan 15, 2011 with Regal Beagle Pub on 94th. When we walked in the first thing the waitress did was introduced herself, took our names, created separate tabs and excused herself if the drinks would take an extra few minutes because we had all just walked in at the same time, but ensured us we would get our drinks ASAP! Already she had a $20 tip from me in my eyes. We loved her for the rest of the night because she took such great care of us. We ordered food and it arrived within half an hour. It really made our night and I really appreciated that she took initiative right from the beginning till when we left to make our night smooth and awesome. Our bills were straight up and correct and service was wicked and I just had a fantastic time. This part of our night was at the Lounge Burger after appalling events at Regal Beagle on 94th Ave. Previously we have been to the Regal Beagle Pub in the north with friends, and the wings were fantastic, service was great and so when we planned a 30th birthday party for two of our friends, we thought what better place to bring 30+ together on a Saturday night, than wing night at the Regal Beagle. Upon arriving in the pub around 7pm, it was fairly quiet but there were other customers there other than us. Our waitress wasn't overally friendly or welcoming. When she arrived at our table, I noticed that she never offered to create separate bills for everyone and with much experience going out with large groups and discrepancies at the end of the night, I thought it was a point that I would need to make to ensure I got my bill with no problems. So I and a few others at the table requested separate bills. We received our drinks in a timely fashion considering how many people this one waitress was now serving. Everyone began to order wings and especially on WING night, you can guarantee it is going to get busy. We waited well over an hour for our wings (30) and even when the wings were delivered, not all of the wings we had ordered were even brought out to us. Or she gave them to the wrong person, or she forgot the order all together so bits of our order only came. This was the same for several people. And while we ate half of our order, some peoples just never came. At this point the waitress hardly apologized and simply blamed the kitchen for the mess. Seeing as the wings took an hour to order, we ordered another round of wings... And to our surprise AGAIN, it's took ages to receive the wings and AGAIN, our whole order was not even delivered, not to mention we were still missing wings from our original order we made regardless of the countless times we mentioned the wings were still missing. When it came time to the bill, the waitress failed to create the separate bill for a few of the people at our table. She did manage to create ours, but even our bill still included 2 rounds of wings that we NEVER even got. That aside she now had 30+ on ONE tab after several hours with several intoxicated people. People felt frustrated to have to sort out their bill especially those that also requested a separate tab. Long story short, I was appalled at this evening. We brought in 30+ in for reservation on a Saturday night wing night. And as an avid wing night lover, I have never seen a pub fall so behind and create such a mess. Where was the advanced planning? Where was her head when 30 people enter a bar to not recommend separate bills? My opinion, very amateur waitress decision. She had heads up, she knew there was 30 people. Split the tabs lady! Take names, use an old fashion pen and paper, keep track and eliminate such an inconvenient end to an evening. Where was the cook, and why had he not got wings rolling earlier and really how long to wings take to make regardless of the number ordered... there is only a few different types to possibly order. And own up to the mistakes being made. This waitressed blamed the kitchen. And whether it was their screw up or hers, they are a team and I would expect that they would do something to rectify what was going on. Even a simple, "the kitchen has been slammed," "It's my first night" just anything for us to excuse the disgusting service and even care to empathize with her... But I couldn't because it's Calgary and I expect fantastic service and or at least feel like we were important enough. Even after speaking with the manager they did NOTHING to make anything up to us. This waitress could have made an easy $300+ in tips with the number of people we had there and for the number of hours we spent there... I doubt she made $30. So I feel frustrated. I've worked several years on the floor and behind the bar working in pubs, lounges and bars and I've been through crazy wing night maddess. I get the rush of it all. But if you don't have staff that can maintain the required service for high volume customers, you should probably consider restaffing busy nights like wing night. And I would suggest stopping into Lounge Burger and your waitress, manager and cook could take some pointers on what real customer service is and how a real team in this industry should run. Lastly the wings that we did receive were fantastic. Meaty, tasty and I would recommend Salt and Pepper, Beagle and Honey Garlic. But more than that, I recommend the Regal Beagle in the north and avoid this gong show. Curious on your thoughts
